Passerby of a Barking Rottweiler

You assume you’re tough until

you walk past their territory.

Teeth and bark sharp,

unsure which was noticed first

but no time to decide. the pounding 4

feet of a blurred fur hurls itself towards

you. your heart pounding to the same

rattle of the chain-linked fence

the only net protecting you

when you are not the owner of a

Rottweiler. remove your mask of

fortitude, for she is not fooled.

The erupting howl of Cerberus,

enough to break the strongest of heroes,

is a reminder of the fragility of life.

they stand their ground,

you hurry. An empty metal bowl

hungry, but never full. you are

full of bones. if you aren’t running,

you should
